Every week the LMS crew head out to a local show and every week it gets better. I see attendance numbers climbing and even musicians themselves are showing support for other bands. Even when their band isn't playing that night. Mad props to those people. However, there's still a lot of work to be done within our scene and it has to come from all of us. The relationship between bands, promoters and venues need to be tighter and honest. Bands often go unpaid for a show. Promoters often keep the ticket/door sales. The venue makes their money from the bar sales. So, how is this fair?
Well, it's not. I know first hand how tough it is to write songs, rehearse, travel to a show, play and then drive home empty handed. This is not how our local music scene should be run. Our music scene is a living, breathing entity and she needs to be taken care of. All of these elements need to be in sync, in order for the music scene to work.
Where does LMS fit into all of this?
The LMS crew tries to cover as many shows as we can every month. Our hope is to bring more exposure to local bands through photos, interviews, articles, cd reviews and on camera interviews. The only way we can do this is by having the aforementioned three elements participate. We have an entire web site dedicated to local music. Help us by sending us your show posters, band news and more.
Thank you,
Al Homfeld
